VINTAGE BAR CART COCKTAILS AND SUMMER POOLSIDE SOIRÉES

Outside Guests Enjoy Rare Access to Hotel’s Legendary Poolside During Spirited Series

Program Features Performances by the Aqualillies and Benefits Project Angel Food

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., (July 9, 2012) – This summer, The Beverly Hills Hotel, Sunset Boulevard’s famous luxury hideaway, is marking 100 years since its opening. To celebrate, the hotel is collaborating with Cointreau, the original French triple sec, to introduce a summer entertaining cocktail series reminiscent of the Golden Age of Hollywood. In the spirit of this bygone era, Cointreau and The Beverly Hills Hotel will kick off this series with a poolside cocktail soirée on July 11th, hosted by International Queen of Burlesque and Cointreau global ambassador, Dita Von Teese and to benefit Project Angel Food, a charitable organization that cooks and delivers free nutritious meals to men, women and children affected by life-threatening illnesses.

“In honor of The Beverly Hills Hotel’s anniversary, Cointreau aspired to create an experience reminiscent of the inimitable glamour and style of old Hollywood,” said Suzi Cesco, Vice President of Liqueurs at Remy Cointreau, U.S.A. “The summer bar cart cocktails and poolside soirées encapsulate the sophistication and culture of that golden era and showcase the true art of cocktail making.”

Returning to its iconic Hollywood roots, The Beverly Hills Hotel will create signature drinks from a poolside vintage bar cart in a fashion reminiscent of the classic style of cocktail making. During the series, guests will have the opportunity to order hand-crafted cocktails made from fresh ingredients, such as the Cointreau Sunset Margarita created by resident mixologist, Robert Rouleau, as they relax by the pool. Rouleau designed this refreshing pink cocktail as an ode to the Pink Palace’s famous walls which were painted their iconic color in 1948 – the same year that Margarita Sames created the Original Margarita stating, “a margarita without Cointreau isn’t worth its weight in salt.”

Dita Von Teese will help launch Cointreau’s poolside cocktail series with a never-before-seen burlesque performance created specifically for this event, incorporating Dita’s sultry moves, elaborate props and a custom made costume created by British fashion designer, Jenny Packham. Dita’s performance pays homage to Margarita Sames, the bon vivant Dallas socialite known for her lavish entertaining, while also taking inspiration from the Golden Age of Hollywood.

“When Dita described her performance to me, I was hooked!” said Packham. “Her costume is a mesmerizing vision in full Technicolor: a white sequin saddle shouldered bolero with Swarovski encrusted orchids, paired with a detachable crepe skirt revealing a printed coral ombre lining. Beneath, are bare essentials dripping with tantalizing rainbow tassels. The outcome is seductive and glamorous in a totally ‘tropical’ Rita Hayworth style.” Packham adds, “Dita has worn many dresses from my collections and always takes them to another dimension, so it has been very exciting to collaborate.”

According to Dita, “Making cocktails involves an almost sacred ritual that leads the way to a world of refinement. To take the time to hand craft anything these days, whether it be a luxurious couture dress or a beautiful cocktail it's impossible not to notice what sets it apart from the rest. Serving elegant cocktails is a glamorous way to entertain your guests. Cointreau has perfected this art, and made it possible for anyone to learn to do it at home. From Marlene Dietrich to Rita Hayworth, The Beverly Hills Hotel has served cocktails to some of Hollywood’s greatest legends over the years, and what better way to pay tribute to them than by toasting with Cointreau cocktails in their honor.”

The launch event and weekly series will also feature performances by the synchronized swimming sensations, The Aqualillies. Taking the style of the legendary swimming routines from Esther Williams' films and reinventing it to fit the modern poolside soirées, the troupe will alternate between two different sequences for their performances while costumed in 1950s-styled swimsuits.

"Our centennial year is really all about giving back and the upcoming Cointreau pool party series, which benefits Project Angel Food, is just another way that allows us to help support those in need in our community," says Edward Mady, General Manager of The Beverly HIlls Hotel and Regional Director, West Coast, USA, for Dorchester Collection.  "The planned events are also a way to capture the celebrated history of the hotel's pool and cabanas and bring it to life in a fun and vibrant way."

Beginning July 13 through August 24, hotel guests and Los Angeles locals will be invited, without cover charge, to the historic pool every Friday evening from 6:00pm to 8:00pm to experience the chic vintage bar cart service, signature anniversary cocktails and special live performances by the Aqualillies. The series of Cointreau poolside soirées will also pay tribute to Margarita Sames who created the original margarita while vacationing at her Acapulco cliffside hacienda. To celebrate her new Cointreau cocktail creation, she hosted a pool party that was rumored to last for two weeks straight!

About Cointreau:
Established over 160 years ago in Angers, France, Cointreau is one of the world’s most famous crystal clear spirits. Cointreau’s distinctive amber square-shaped bottle is a global icon, and its subtle taste is a perfect balance of bitter and sweet orange peels grown and meticulously selected for their quality. Cointreau’s bright and clean flavor make it an essential ingredient in top shelf cocktails such as the Cosmopolitan, Sidecar, and the White Lady. However, it is probably best known as being a key ingredient in the most popular cocktail in the US - the Original Margarita. Its versatility, defined by its capacity to combine the richness of its flavors and aroma, also make it a perfect choice neat or on ice. Today, more than 15 million Cointreau bottles are sold worldwide and Cointreau remains the authentic choice of many top bartenders in the smartest and most fashionable bars.
